Late Spring - what's happening!

Turns out without the incentive of something tangible to post about, I'm a bit hopeless!

Life ticks on!

I've got this gorgeous new man in my life - Jenson Button - and the sun has shone every day since he arrived. I hardly driven with the roof up! (Only when I've got a child in the back who is complaining that her hair is getting all messed up!)

Rhian treated me to Go Ape for my birthday, and we had a lovely afternoon with Garan in the treetops at Alice Holt. Only scary bit was when we had to jump and swing into a cargo net - and there was a drop before you swung - but we made it :-)

You might (or might not!) also notice (a lot of "real life" people have not) that I've stopped dying my hair. I got well and truly bored of battling the roots, so over Easter stripped the colour out to ascertain the extent of the grey, and decided that, actually, it was liveable with! Some people have asked if I've had highlights, but nobody has fallen about laughing - so despite me thinking it's a massive massive change, most people haven't even noticed! I do feel better being lighter - and actually think I look a lot less pale than I used to! It also means a whole new range of colours have opened up to be included in my wardrobe - and the black is not as good as it was! Shopping required :-)

With some of the money left to me by Gran I decided to get a new tent. Our "big tent" was too big just for 2 people, and definitely too big for Kira and I to put up by ourselves. Last year we'd borrowed a tent, and I was looking for something of a similar size to that, but was intrigued with the new air beam tents springing up. Kira and I had a good look around, and settled on an outwell hornet L - a big tent for 2 people, but with the headroom so that Steve could stand up in it if we went with him. And being an air beam it's incredibly simple to put up - peg it in, pump,it up, guy it out and you're hot to trot :-)

It's getting it's first proper outing over half term, when we head down to Dorset for 3 nights, and I'll try and remember to post some proper pics then - but here's of the living area from our trial night in the garden :-)

I've done a couple of bike rides - I've found a lovely route along the Basingstoke Canal which I've done a couple of times. Mel and I have signed up for the 25 mile Farnham Charity ride on 6th July, so we're trying to build up some mileage before then - and that will be hilly, so I also need to work on my hill climbing capability! Here's a couple of photos from when I rode the canal in April.

Ok, that'll do for now! Hopefully I'll be back shortly with some photos from our camping adventure :-)

Catch up!

Let's just try and catch up since September with some photos!

Firstly, the Tour of Britain cycle race came through our town - very exciting for the 30 seconds it took for the speeding peloton to whistle past us!

But we made it onto the telly! (We had cycled down - we weren't wearing hi vis just so's we could spot ourselves on the coverage. Honestly guv'!)

Actually managed to catch a photo of both girls together in their uniforms. As someone said "oh, there's 2 of them!" Just 2 different sizes.

Kira needs 4 teeth out before she has her braces - supposed to be a quick job in the dentist chair, but after 40 minutes heaving, tugging and twisting only this one begrudgingly deigned to leave her mouth, so she's now been referred to specialist dentistry for the remaining 3 - apparently it's the little twist on the roots which cause the grief! (And 2 of the remaining 3 are molars, with their double roots). Poor sausage was a bit sore to say the least (and sorry for the gruesome picture!)

Remembrance parade Kira did her stuff (in the middle here) - even though we noticed a week later that someone had played a jolly jape and her cap badge was upside down.

Rhian turned 18 on 11th December - I can't quite get my head round the fact my first child is an adult!

Mum put some photos on her present

Wasn't she cute!

I then run out of photos, but we had a wonderfully quiet Christmas, and January has been pretty busy for the family, with Rhian finally passing her driving test and buying (hopefully - just waiting to hear if the air con can be fixed) a car, starting her Nijmegen training again and finishing her gliding scholarship. Kira has been to France and Belgium to visit the war graves, and Steve has been really busy with work and cadet stuff too.

Hopefully there'll be more to share soon as we've got our annual weekend away next weekend!

3 go to Germany!

So, we said goodbye to Gran on 10th of August, then we packed up and headed off on our family holiday on the 11th! R chose not to come, so for the first time in 13 years we were holidaying as a threesome!

This year's destination was a departure from our "fly and flop" holidays of the last 4 years, as we had decided to drive to the Black Forest in Germany. We stopped off for a night in France on the journey, but that really was just a pitstop to break the journey into manageable chunks!

The Black Forest is a truly beautiful area, and despite a few weather hiccups (the sights aren't so great from the Black Forest High Road or the top of a Mountain when the cloud base is lower than you are - in fact visibility gets down to about 20 feet!) we had a great week walking, mooching around towns, playing on pedalos and eating Kuchen!

Negotiations are currently underway regarding next year's adventure, but we really enjoyed the freedom driving to our destination gave us, so I'm fully expecting another European destination :-)

My wonderful travelling companions :-)

Time to Say Goodbye

Today we gather to say goodbye to the wonderful, feisty, stubborn, beautiful, caring woman who was my Granny Mick.

Finally, after months of knocking on death's door, she was allowed in on 11th August.

She's been ready to go for several years, and it was a very peaceful end - just as she'd always hoped for - she wanted to "fall asleep, and wake up dead", and that's exactly what happened.

She had a good innings - 99 years, 8 months and 1 week - but that just means that we all knew her so well, she's leaving a bigger hole.

This was taken about 5 years ago, and is one of the very first photos on my phone.

Here she is in March 2012, when she came to my house as a surprise visitor on my Mum's birthday.

This is her at her own birthday celebrations last year at the beginning of December - 99, with a glass of red in her hand (she had asked for champagne!)

And this was taken not long after, by Rhian as part of a photography project - using proper film.

I'm going to miss her.

2 Girls Go Camping!

Earlier this year, as S was being very non committal regarding holiday plans, Kira and I decided to take matters into our own hands and to book ourselves a week, just the 2 of us, camping at Warcombe Farm, one of our very favourite campsites, just outside Woolacombe in North Devon.

As the time approached I began to get a bit nervous - we're both quite feisty - and the thought of us living together, just the 2 of us, for a whole week, was daunting! I wasn't convinced there wouldn't be a murder lol!

But, as you will see from the photos, we had a wonderful wonderful week, with the only strop occurring when there was an accidental swingball/head incident!

We've decided we'll repeat the exercise next year and are eyeing up a new inflatable tent!

We managed to pitch the tent in the dry, but it started to rain overnight, and continued for 48 hours! (And we're talking monsoons here! The local town was flooded!)

But then the sun came - just in time for a beautiful sunset.

Lee Beach...... (I've got no photos, but Woolacombe Beach is about 2 miles of Golden Sand - Lee is a bit more secluded and interesting if you just want to sit and/or explore!)

And the sun stayed!

There's no photos, but we had a amazing afternoon body boarding, and did lots of touristy things, as well as a lot of chatting, card games, Chinese checkers, and our daily scrapbook :-)

Not sure where next year's adventure will be - maybe back to our very favourite South Hams, in South Devon.

Photo Catch Up!

What did I do next?

I did get my phone fixed! I can highly recommend iDoctor4u in Guildford for a screen replacement - and they could tell me the price before hand -£60 - so up yours, Apple!

It's been a while, so I think I'll post photos and explain!

I met up with "The TMC Girls" on 16th June, who I worked with for 8 years until 1996 - we see each other usually about 4 times a year, and we always chat and chat and chat! This time we met for Sunday lunch at a pub, then went back to one of the girl's house to enjoy afternoon tea! Beautiful setting, and wonderful home made treats! (I say "girls" - we've met twice this year to celebrate 50th birthdays - I'm the "baby" of the group lol!)

My beautiful Small updated her profile picture - isn't she gorgeous! (I know I'm biased!)

Silver by Mail had half price "le stack" rings again, and at just £6 each, I decided it would be rude not to add to my collection!

I now have 7 in total, and have been mixing and matching merrily!

Not a great shot, but a group of 4 of us from work went to see Robbie Williams at Wembley Stadium on 30th June. This is the 3rd time "The Ladies What Gig" have seen him - and he did us proud once more!

Do you like our accessories? Lol!

3rd July marked our 20th Wedding Anniversary! Steve said to surprise him with something to do! We started off with lunch by ourselves in this beautiful tree house, then spent the afternoon quad biking!

Last weekend (6th July) we went to see Mumford and Sons! (Supported by Ben Howard, Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeros, Haim and Vampire Weekend!). Excellent!

So it's been an exciting couple of weeks!

I've also managed to take an unintentional "selfie" while riding my bike home from work!

Bunny ears turn Ben into an angelic kitty!

Rhian wanted a French plait - she's currently in Holland and will be taking part in the Nijmegen 4 day Marches - covering 100 miles in 4 days - marching in a squad in full uniform. Good luck Rhian!

And yesterday was scorching! And it's set to continue all week!

Pimms was required!

And that brings us up to date!
